Ribbon Cutting

Thursday, February 25th, 4:30pm at the NEW China City. There will be an open house following the Ribbon Cutting. Come by and check out the new China City and their new space. They are located at the former Mitzels Restaurant, by the Best Western Harbor Plaza.

Spring Break! Marine Biology Day Camp

An exciting spring break experience learning about the wonders of the marine world! Join Marine Biologist Andrew Rice as you explore cloning anemones, molting crabs, and feeding sea stars. Discover what and how barnacles eat, explore tide pools and more. We’ll spend the entire week immersed in the discovery of the marine world. Classes will be held in Anacortes. Signs of Spring by Sea Kayak – Do you enjoy sea kayaking?

This is a chance to see spring first hand from the water. Join us for your front row seat on the Salish Sea as spring emerges. Learn the natural history of our region and welcome the returning plants and animals as they arrive. Students supply kayaks and equipment and come with basic paddling skills. Cost for this course is $159 and will meet on Wednesdays, March 3,10,17,24 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Program provided by Academic Adventures. Spring/Prom/Easter Fashion show and extravaganza

Amy’s Touch and Dan’s Classic Ballroom are hosting a Spring/Prom/Easter Fashion show and extravaganza on March 20th, at Dan’s Classic Ballroom. We are looking for local businesses that would like booth space to showcase their wares. We want to promote a Don’t GO, Shop OH for your spring fashion and prom. We are looking for hair, makeup, jewelry, fashion, and flowers and dining. Bring the Bling! We are also looking for door prizes. Tickets are $2.00 with a portion of proceeds going to Relay for Life and the Oak Harbor Chamber. Vendor Space is $25.00 per booth and space is limited. Got a skeleton in your closet?

A call out to all our members, volunteers, and patrons! We will soon need an old fashioned articulated skeleton, the kind that used to be in every Science class when we were little. Now that we need one, we can’t find one. If you know of anyone who may have a “skeleton in their closet” or in their basement, or in their office that would be willing to lend to us, we will gladly give them a shout-out in our program, (great advertisement…goes to over 1500 people!) bayleaf Wine Tasting Event. Red Zinfandels wine tasting – powerful, spicy, and structured, and we will show off some of our favorite house wines. A snack will be provided. This is a fun way to be social! The Wine tasting will be at the Oak Harbor store on Thursday, February 25th from 5-7 p.m., for a cost of $15.00. Partnership with Schools

The Partnership with Schools Committee of the Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Oak Harbor High School (OHHS) hosted a Construction Trades Career Panel for the monthly Career Speaker program on February 17th at OHHS. Corey Johnson, of C. Johnson Construction, Inc., Ron Wallin, OHHS graduate and manager of P&L Construction Inc., and Keith Crowther, from Krieg Construction, Inc., presented to a group of 20 students interested in pursuing a construction career. Students learned about the types of training and education necessary to enter this field, as well as the diverse careers available in construction. A panel of professionals in law enforcement careers will present to students in March. If you would like to learn more about this program, contact Liz at the Chamber of Commerce for details.
