It seems ironic that Anna Jarvis, the founder of Mother’s Day,

 spent her entire inheritance protesting its commercialization.  Anna died believing that instead of sending a commercial greeting card, a personalized handwritten note should be highest tribute. Another irony, the commercialization has ensured the continuity of a great American tradition. A blank note card with an intimate photo embedded on the front seems to be the right idea in this case.
